Media Courses
provides a fun and challenging curriculum aimed at the senior grade levels. In a facility unrivalled anywhere in an Ontario secondary school environment; you can begin your journey in Grade nine by taking integrated technology, where you can explore several technology-related pathways. Grade 10 will offer you a variety of Communication Technology courses. These junior-level courses help students prepare for the television program which begins in grade eleven.

This course will give students a fully-rounded introduction to studio-based television broadcasting. In this course students will: learn lighting techniques, camera operation and theory (both studio and portable) sound production and theory and post production concepts such as editing and special effects creation will be introduced. Additionally, the importance of teamwork, punctuality, working safely and a commitment to excellance will be stressed in all aspects of the course curriculum.
This course is comprised of half-day classes (either all-morning or all-afternoon), students work toward being able to produce the announcements in a live TV show format. The announcements are broadcast live throughout the school on our closed-circuit television system. We also stream the announcements out to our Vimeo channel, which had 34,000 hits last semester! Additionally, interested students have the opportunity to participate in Radio Leacock, our live radio station which is broadcast out of the Studio 6 Audio Control Room. Radio Leacock is also the only high school internet radio station currently operating in Canada! In addition to the live TV broadcast, students are expected to produce a variety of challenging group and individual assignments related to the associated curriculum which is taught in the attached classroom. This course enrollment is limited to 22 students.
This course will give students an opportunity to extend and broaden their knowledge of television production by building on the core concepts learned in the grade eleven TGJ3MK course. The senior members of LTV will be required to take on a leadership role in the running of the LTV station and they will have to produce content for the LTV news crew such as; in-depth news stories or mini-documentaries on topics of interest to the Leacock school body. The grade 12 curriculum also instructs students in the art of special effects and shooting on green screen. Students will have the opportunity to specialize in areas of interest such as, editing, post production, camera, sound, audio production and directing. Course participants will be expected to produce a 'portfolio worthy' product by the end of the course. This course enrollment is limited to 22 students.
This course will teach students digital communication skills using a project-based approach to learning professional web design and the associated development process. Using Adobe web tools, the course curriculum will develop four key skill areas: Project management and collaboration., design, research and communication and professional web-authoring tools. In addition, we will learn about how the internet works and about the emergenge of new technologies such as HTML 5 and Ajax. The importance of teamwork, punctuality, working safely and a committment to excellance will be stressed in all aspects of the course curriculum. The pre-requisite for this course is TGJ201, TGJ3/4M . This course enrollment is limited to 24 students.
This course examines communications technology from a media perspective. Students will develop knowledge and skills as they design and produce media projects in the areas of live, recorded, and graphic communications. These areas will include exploring HD video and compression formats, Adobe Flash w. actionscript, music production and radio broadcasting and an introduction to video game design; and interactive new media. Students will also develop an awareness of related environmental and societal issues, and will explore college and university programs and career opportunities in the various communications and technology fields. There is no pre-requisite for this course, all are welcome! This course enrollment is limited to 21 students.
